As Dollywood turns 30 this year, it is the largest employer in this Smoky Mountain region in Tennessee, attracting some 2.5 million visitors per year, 4 million when combined with other nearby Dollywood properties, such as her Splash Country water park.

And yet, it’s difficult to explain Dollywood’s appeal. “Many people visit because they love Parton,” writes Victoria Bekiempis, “be it her music or her feminist, LGBT-friendly ‘Be yourself!’ persona—but most patrons do not consider themselves obsessive superfans.

Seems Dolly just knows how to treat her guests right.
