Samantha Power, US Ambassador to the United Nations in a speech to U.S. Institute of Peace early in the week stressed the importance of not reacting to refugees from a place of fear. Fear and anger lead to bad decisions, ones that aren’t based on facts but rather on myths that swirls around refugees and their immigration.
The facts are clear about the vetting process, the contributions they make once they become a part of society and their participation in the welfare systems. But more often than not, it is not what politicians like Donald Trump espouse. He like others around the world purposefully spread misinformation and lies about refugees.
