On Friday, the top administrative court in France overturned a ban on burkinis in the Riviera town of Villeneuve-Loubet that should set precedent and stop other efforts across the country to crackdown on swimwear—specifically, swimsuits that cover most of a woman’s body and are worn by Muslim women.

The binding decision is expected to impact all of France’s resort municipalities, 30 in total, that had previously issued similar bans forbidding women to cover up their bodies with a full-body swimsuit that has been dubbed a “burkini.”
