Tierne Ewing was found shot to death in a barn after being kidnapped by her husband, Kevin Ewing, who was out on bail after being charged with kidnapping and torturing Tierne just two months before in July. Kevin was found alive, with her body with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, reports Anna Merlan.
According to Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Tierne had a protective order against Kevin, having survived a 12-day abduction, during which he tied her with a cord around her neck, bound her hands, and taped her mouth shut. “She told police that “Kevin also branded her legs with a piece of hot metal” because he was upset by some text messages” on her phone.
Domestic violence is no accident nor is it the result of stress, anger, drugs or alcohol. It is a series of learned and destructive behaviors that one person uses to dominate, intimidate and manipulate another. Without help, it never gets better, only worse.
Despite a long and well documented history of violence against Tierne—she even had a restraining order against Kevin—the judge chose to release him on bail. How could this happen? –Danielle Bizzarro
