American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan has been awarded the 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature for “having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition,” reports CNN.

“I think he’s one of the greatest artists in the world and he’s changed our whole lives with his writing and his poetry.” –Marianne Faithfull

The Swedish Academy drew parallels between Dylan’s work and that of ancient Greek poets Homer and Sappho. But there are plenty of writers and music writers debating Bob Dylan’s win, with some saying the choice of a pop musician is ridiculous while others praised the academy for thinking outside the box. Still others think Dylan should eschew establishment praise and reject the prize altogether.
