Most white people just don’t get it. They don’t understand what it is like to be Black in America. On so many levels they can’t conceive of how different the experience is in this very unequal and bigoted nation. Too many don’t want to talk about privilege and the worst offenders are often liberals who because of their political persuasion don’t think they are biased. They don’t realize by just being white they are part of a power structure that defers to them.
So it is no surprise when we are told that Black people are 2.8 times more likely to die in an encounter with the police than white people.
It serves a yet another horrific reminder of how far we have to go as a nation to recognize that Black lives matter. It also serves as a warning of how much worse it will get under a racist president, one who installs a white supremacist in the White House. – Jan Harrison
