Donald Trump keeps telling the American public that Mexico will pay for the wall. Depending on the day they will either the pay for the wall before it is built or will reimburse us after it is built. According to BuzzFeed News, yesterday once again Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto said,
“’Mexico does not believe in walls, I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, Mexico will not pay for any wall.”
Pena Nieto is scheduled to visit Washington DC next week, but given Trump’s signing the executive order to build the wall there are calls for the trip to be canceled.
Trump’s executive order does not mean that the wall will be built, because it needs to be funded. Since Mexico has been very clear that it will not pay for it, it will fall to the American taxpayer. Given that the Republican party has decried the amount of the federal budget and the debt that we are currently carrying, it will be interesting to see how they spin spending billions of dollars on a wall.
Should we build a wall instead of fixing our infrastructure? Should we spend billions on a wall that is solving no real problem? Should we spend billions on a wall versus spending billions on jobs programs?
