Change comes in a variety of ways. Movements get started from Facebook posts. A little girl tweeting from Aleppo puts a human face to the inhumanity of war. Now a commercial by Nike has focused attention on women in Islamic countries who want and are determined to exercise and play sports.
Posted online earlier this week, it has already gotten well over 400,000 viewings on You-Tube. It shows women in hajibs running, skateboarding and other women boxing and ice skating. All clearly from Islamic countries where women have fewer rights and opportunities.
The reaction from the Mid-East has been mixed but according to Reuters,
“We need to start driving the conversation away from Arab women being subjects of segregation, or oppression … and more towards them being enablers, achievers and go-getters,” said Dubai advertising executive Nadim Ghassan.”
