Many are living in terror since Donald Trump was elected. They are fearing for their lives and those of their loved ones because they are people of color with different national backgrounds. The hate that Donald Trump stirred up has already had very real consequence as Mosques are attacked and people are held at our borders not allowed him because of their countries of origin or their “foreign” sounding names. Last week Muhammad Ali Jr was detained at an airport.
But worse of all the loss of life has begun. Srinivas Kuchibhotla was gunned down in Kansas by Adam W. Purinton. He was an aviation engineer for Garmin, who according to his wife loved America. He died because of the color of his skin and his Indian heritage.
According to the Huffington Post, his wife had expressed her fear to her husband after the election of Trump.
Sunayana Dumala says she spent nights lying awake after Donald Trump was elected president in November. She worried about the increasingly hostile climate toward foreigners ― people like her and her husband, who came to the U.S. from India.
She was right to worry as we all should be. This country has quickly become unrecognizable. – Jan Harrison
