Jon Stewart came out of retirement to reminisce with his old buddy Stephen Colbert on the Late Show and to offer some unsolicited advice to “the media” on how to cope with President Trump’s ongoing hostility toward journalism and the truth, reports Caroline Framke.
“Trump lies more in one press conference than CNN does in a day,” Stewart told Colbert. “And this is coming from a guy who, as you know, hates CNN.”
“So I heard Donald Trump broke up with you,” Stewart chided “The Media.” “Stings a little, doesn’t it? Finally thought you met your match: a blabbermouth who’s as thin-skinned and narcissistic as you are.”
“But Stewart did express some hope that coverage of Trump can continue and even improve,” says Framke, “even if Trump himself never accepts reporting that’s critical of him.” Stewart suggested that the breakup might offer The Media an opportunity for self-reflection and self-improvement. Take up a hobby, he urged. Maybe try journalism.
