The women of the Democratic party made a statement on Tuesday. Most of them wore white. White is the color that represented the Suffragette movement. It was also the color Hillary Clinton wore the night that she accepted the nomination of the Democratic Party. It is symbolic. But to Rep. Kevin Cramer of North Dakota, “It is a syndrome. There is no question, there is a disease associated with the notion that a bunch of women would wear bad-looking white pantsuits in solidarity with Hillary Clinton to celebrate her loss. You cannot get that weird.”
The purpose was to show unity and stand up for women’s rights given the Trump and the GOP’s intention to roll back many policies that have benefited women, from the Affordable Care Act to defunding Planned Parenthood. According to CNN when criticized for his comments Cramer dug himself a deeper hole.
“I don’t buy their argument that it was a celebration of suffrage. I think they should be celebrating the fact that there were women members of Congress sitting in a joint session, listening to the President of the United States on equal footing as a co-equal branch — and sort of get over this notion that somehow we have to be offended all the time.”
Yeah, white men have to be offended all the time. -JH
