Women + sports = unequal pay. Whether it’s tennis, golf, soccer or now hockey women get paid less. It doesn’t matter the size of the crowds or the about of wins. Women just get paid less. And now the US Women’s Hockey Team has had enough. They are boycotting the 2017 IIHF Women’s World Championship that takes place in Plymouth, Michigan at the end of the month unless the negotiations they have been in with the USA Hockey bear fruit.
According to reporting by espnW, USA Hockey currently provides the USWNT players with $1,000 per month during the six-month Olympic residency period, and “virtually nothing” the rest of the four years, even though women’s hockey players are expected to train full-time and compete for the national team even outside of Olympic years.
