Donald Trump’s leaked tax return reveals that he had to pay $38 millions in 2005 because of a tax rule that he has promised to abolish as president.
Trump’s tax return was published by MSNBC on Tuesday, revealed that the president paid $38 million due to the “alternative minimum tax” (AMT), which is a tax meant to ensure that the “mega wealthy pay a fairer share of tax,” reports the Guardian.
“Contrary to the White House’s claim, Maddow said the return was ‘turned over’ to David Cay Johnston, a 2001 Pulitzer prize-winning investigative journalist who focuses on tax and finance issues and who joined her on the broadcast,” says The Guardian.
During the campaign, Trump pledged to eliminate the AMT altogether. Now we know why.
