The FBI and the Justice Department obtained a FISA warrant targeting Carter Page’s communications because they believed there was probable cause to believe that Page “was acting as an agent of a foreign power, in this case Russia,” reports The Washington Post.

According to officials, “the government’s application… included a lengthy declaration that laid out investigators’ basis for believing that Page was an agent of the Russian government and knowingly engaged in clandestine intelligence activities on behalf of Moscow,” notes WaPo.

Page’s contacts along with those of other Trump aides are now at the center of a far-reaching investigation Trump’s entanglements with Russia and whether his campaign coordinated with the Russian government to swing the election in his favor.
