People who work in our intelligence agencies often put their lives on the line for our nation. They assume identities and lead lives deep undercover in order to keep us safe. The very fact that we have not had another 9/11 is a tribute to their work. For them, it is not about politics.
Naveed Jamali was one of those people. He was a double agent for the FBI, working with Russia. This is not a game. This is a dangerous job that needs to be protected at all costs. Jamali writes,
The importance of a country’s spies demands its leaders go to extreme lengths to protect their identities, even from other members of that government. In my case I was assigned a codename, and I watched as the FBI refused to disclose my involvement as an operative even to other agencies, clearly telling them “they would need to have a ‘need-to-know’.”
