The President of the United States believes that climate change is a hoax. From EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt to his budget director to Mike Pence, all believe that the science is not settled on global warming. They are wrong. Unfortunately, it should come as no surprise that Trump has slashed the EPA’s budget by over 31%.
One of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals is to “take urgent action against climate change and its impact.” Scientists from around the world recognize the challenges we all face and the consequences of not addressing issues that impact our planet.
“People are experiencing the significant impacts of climate change, which include changing weather patterns, rising sea level, and more extreme weather events. The greenhouse gas emissions from human activities are driving climate change and continue to rise. They are now at their highest levels in history. Without action, the world’s average surface temperature is projected to rise over the 21st century and is likely to surpass 3 degrees Celsius this century—with some areas of the world expected to warm even more.”
But the Trump administration doesn’t believe any of this. Many Republican’s don’t. They have collective put their head in the sand and are willing to roll the dice on our children’s future. This budget is an abomination.
According to Mother Jones,
Under Trump’s budget, dozens of programs, from environmental justice to radon detection, are eliminated. A variety of projects that focus on environmental cleanup for the Great Lakes, Chesapeake Bay, Puget Sound, and more, are zeroed out. Energy Star, a relatively small program that rates energy efficient products and properties, is gone.
