There is a special election today in Montana for the seat left vacant by GOP Rep. Ryan Zinke. Greg Gianforte is running as a Republican for the House of Representatives against Democrat Rob Quist.
Yesterday, Gianforte was accused of body slamming Ben Jacobs, a reporter for The Guardian. onto the ground, breaking his glasses. A Fox News team was in the room where the incident happened and documented Jacobs claim that Gianforte assaulted him without provocation.
According to BuzzFeed News, Gianforte’s spokesperson, Shane Scanlon, denied Jacob’s version of what happened in a statement released to the press,
Tonight, as Greg was giving a separate interview in a private office, The Guardian’s Ben Jacobs entered the office without permission, aggressively shoved a recorder in Greg’s face, and began asking badgering questions. Jacobs was asked to leave. After asking Jacobs to lower the recorder, Jacobs declined. Greg then attempted to grab the phone that was pushed in his face. Jacobs grabbed Greg’s wrist, and spun away from Greg, pushing them both to the ground. It’s unfortunate that this aggressive behavior from a liberal journalist created this scene at our campaign volunteer BBQ.
The description does not match the statements by the eye-witnesses and last night Gianforte was charged with misdemeanor assault.
