I grew up valuing education. My mother was a teacher with two masters degrees. My father was the head of medical social work at Yale-New Haven Hospital. All three of their chiIdren went to college. I will encourage my children to go to college even if they want, as my younger daughter now does, to be a baker. Knowledge and, most importantly, being taught how to critically think is a key component to leading a successful adventurous life.
I have respect for people who have taken the time to learn their craft or area of expertise. Clearly, it is a sentiment that President Trump does not share. He cares little about being qualified as exampled by his pick of his cabinet members who have no experience at all in any of the areas that they are now responsible for. From Ben Carson as Secretary of HUD to Betsy DeVos as Secretary for Education, he has shown a complete disregard for the agencies and constituencies that they are now in charge of.
But his newest pick is astonishingly brazen and stupefying. Trump has chosen an event planner, yes that is right, an event planner, to head the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Region II, which includes New York and New Jersey and represent billions of dollars in funding. Her name is Lynn Patton, and she has no experience whatsoever in housing or urban development.
According to The Daily News, she lied about attending law school. She is also the former head of Eric Trump’s Foundation, which is now being investigated by Eric Schneiderman, the Attorney General of New York.
So, Trump thinks a woman whose experience is limited to event planning has the knowledge to run and be responsible for billions of dollars in taxpayer money. What say you, Trump voters?
