Donald Trump Jr. seems to have forgotten who else was at the now infamous meeting with Russian attorney, Natalia Veselnitskaya. We knew that Trump campaign manager, Paul Manafort was there and we know that Trump Jr.’s brother-in-law Jared Kushner also attended. And now we know that another man was there by the name of Rinat Akhmetshin.
Akhmetshin is rumored to be a former Soviet intelligence officer. He is also a Russian-American lobbyist. He confirmed his attendance at the meeting with the Associated Press. Trump’s attorney Alan Futerfas called NBC to acknowledge that Akhmetshin was at the meeting.
According to Vanity Fair,
After NBC’s initial report was published, Alan Futerfas, Trump Jr.’s personal lawyer, called NBC to clarify that there was also a third person in the room, in addition to the three Trump associates. In an earlier statement, Futerfas said of the individual who attended the Trump Tower meeting, ‘He is a U.S. citizen. He told me specifically he was not working for the Russian government, and in fact laughed when I asked him that question.’ He added that while the names of the attendees were reviewed, Trump Jr. was unaware of the individual’s background, but he had ‘absolutely no concerns about what was said in that meeting.’ It is unclear whether he was referring to Akhmetshin or the other, still unidentified sixth individual.
The idea that Trump Jr. has been transparent is laughable. He attempted to collude with the Russians. There is no doubt.
