In an increasingly bizarre battle of insults between two of the world’s most incompetent world leaders, the specter of war grows. President Trump and North Korean Dictator Kim Jong Un have taken to calling each other names such as Dotard, Rocket Man, madman and mentally deranged.
While such descriptions may not be far from their marks, they are neither presidential nor helpful in a situation that could easily lead to a military confrontation.
Trump has taken his tweeting habit into his foreign policy, and it has exacerbated an already tenuous situation with North Korea and its leader, Kim Jong Un, a man who has no regard for diplomacy and who, too, is led by his ego.
Trump’s speech at the UN, in which he threatened to “totally destroy” North Korea, shows his complete and total disregard for human life. He has no understanding of the cost of war. To “totally destroy” North Korea would kill millions of innocent people and not just in North Korea. Others in the area, South Koreans, the Japanese, would lose an enormous amount of life. This isn’t a game. War is always the last resort.
Pounding your chest or thwapping your dick on the table doesn’t make you a great leader.
It makes you a dangerous fool.
Donald Trump’s presidency is a nightmare that cannot end too soon. The only hope we have is that Robert Mueller comes up with facts that will lead to his impeachment or resignation and that he takes Pence with him. It is not hyperbole to suggest that it may make the difference in millions of lives.
