Jamie Elizabeth Hudrlik is a visual artist based in Iowa City, Iowa. She received her BFA in painting at Columbia College Chicago in 2004, where she won The Weisman Award, a grant that helped her to complete a series of paintings entitled, The Alphabet Series.
The Alphabet Series, begun in New York City after the traumatic events of September 11th, includes twenty-six unstretched large-scale paintings on canvas, resembling the structure of a children’s alphabet book. Each painting has a theme, which is supported by various symbolic objects that correspond to a single letter of the alphabet.
Currently, Jamie is working on a growing collection of paintings called Wonder Land. The paintings are also on unstretched canvas and are approximately 6 feet by 7 feet. Imagination, self-reflection, nature and symbolism play major roles in each piece. Saturated colors, drips, layers of paint and shiny gloss help enhance the often mythic feel of these imagistic narratives.
