Writer Junot Díaz who won the Pulitzer Prize for his novel, The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao in 2008 has had his Merit Award that was given to him by the government of the Dominican Republic, revoked.  He has been outspoken about the horrible conditions and impact that the new laws have had on Haitians who live in the country.  Many have been there for decades if not generations and they are unceremoniously thrown out of the Dominican Republic with no place to go. Diaz has accused the government of human rights violations and creating a “state of terror.”
