For the very first time Saudi women were not only able to cast a vote , they were able to run for election. The amount of men registered to vote is ten times the amount of women, but only 44% of men registered actually voted while 82% of women who were able to vote, did so. A total of 19 women were elected to municipal councils which is a mere drop in the bucket compared with the 2100 seats that were up for election, but it is a start.
