Sgt. Jason Moran’s was assigned the grisly task of identifying eight possible victims of serial killer, John Wayne Gacy, more than 30 years after the killer’s execution in 1994.

With more-sophisticated crime-solving tools, the Cook County detective began, four years ago, to unravel the mystery of eight anonymous graves found in Cook County, Ill. after Sheriff Tom Dart publicly urged anyone who was related to a possible victim of Gacy to submit to a DNA test.

In addition, Moran’s investigation has, to date, solved 11 unrelated cold cases and brought closure to the families of other murder victims.
