With each day we learn what the Republicans want to do to our nation. Amidst the turmoil caused by President Trump what may have gone unnoticed is that the GOP has prepared a bill to sell off federal lands. Why?  Because private corporations could benefit by purchasing it and developing for their own purposes.

Introduced by Rep. Jason Chaffetz of Utah, according to The Guardian,

The new piece of legislation would direct the secretary of the interior to immediately sell off an area of public land the size of Connecticut. In a press release for House Bill 621, Chaffetz, a Tea Party Republican, claimed that the 3.3m acres of national land, maintained by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), served “no purpose for taxpayers”.

Both conservationists and hunters alike are protesting the sale.  The land is used for hunting, biking, camping, it includes national parks Arizona, New Mexico and Utah.  Some of the property is also leased by logging, oil and gas companies.

Is nothing sacred? Our beautiful land preserved by so many presidents both Republican and Democrat is now part of the GOP’s corporate mandate. -Jan Harrison
