In a surprise move, Prime Minister Theresa May has called for new elections to be held on June 8th. Given Britain recent exit from the European Union, the call for elections is her attempt to unify the government behind one strategy. At the moment the different parties within the government have very different ideas of how to move forward.

According to The Guardian:

The prime minister may have been swayed by recent polls that placed the Conservatives 21 points ahead of Labour despite a policy blitz by Jeremy Corbyn’s party. She will hope to boost a slim working majority of 17 in order to help pass both domestic and Brexit-linked legislation.

Brexit, just like the election of Donald Trump was fueled by the rhetoric of the far right and the appeal a nationalism that looks to build walls and keep the “other” out.
