President Obama visited a refugee assistance center in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The center was full of refugee children. Malaysia has accepted over 150,000 refugees from war torn countries. In a speech later he reminded us all that, anybody who had a chance to see those kids, hopefully you understood the degree to which they’re just like our kids. They deserve love and protection and stability and an education. The notion that somehow we would be fearful of them, that our politics would somehow leave them to turn our sights away from their plight is not representative of the best of who we are…. American leadership is us caring about people who have been forgotten or been discriminated against or tortured or subject to unspeakable violence or separated from family at very young ages.
