The Woman Behind The ‘El Chapo’ Interview

In October 2015, the popular Mexican television star, Kate del Castillo, embarked on a 14-hour journey to meet one of her fans: the notorious drug cartel kingpin, Joaquín Guzmán Loera, also known as ‘El Chapo.’ Later, she urged him to use his money to do good; he asked her to produce a movie about him.

Sean Penn heard about their special “connection” and asked del Castillo to set up a meeting so that he could interview Guzmán. The story appears in Rolling Stone but is strangely mute about del Castillo role and her criticism of corruption inside the Mexican government
