Democratic Progressive Party presidential candidate Tsai Ing-wen appears to be have won a landmark election, making her Taiwan’s first female president. Eric Chu, the Nationalist Party candidate in the presidential election conceded defeat late Saturday,

Tsai Ing-wen supporters cheered in the streets, according to CNN, just as surveys suggested that Tsai Ing-wen would win the vote by a significant margin after eight years under the pro-China Kuomintang (KMT) or Nationalist Party.
