For months, Doctors Without Borders has spoken out about the European Union’s “shameful” deal with Turkey, which focuses on deterring more refugees from entering Europe rather than on providing people in danger with the assistance and protection. Now the Organization, also known as Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), will no longer seek funding from the E.U. member states.

The decision will take effect immediately, though the organization’s medical staff will continue to work in Greece and near the Turkey-Syria border. Going forward, they will seek other funding and/or use emergency funds to keep their critical services going.
