John Greathouse is a venture capitalist who teaches at the University of California Santa Barbara who’s spent a good deal of time reviewing all this research on gender bias in the workplace. Based on this research, Greathouse recently suggested in the Wall Street Journal that if women in tech want to avoid such bias, they ought to hide their gender on their résumés, reports Sarah Kliff.

Greathouse says women should “create an online presence that obscures their gender,” in order “to access opportunities that might otherwise be closed to them,” writes Kliff. The internet was not amused.
