Back in Syria, her husband had always said nasty things to her. “Bitch.” “Slut.” “Fuck you,” and more.  But in the refugee camp in Germany, he started to hit her in front of other people in public, finally beating her with a door handle and choking her. Under normal circumstances, there would have been a criminal investigation into what many would have called attempted murder. But “F” lives in a camp for Syrian refugees in Germany, and there, it seems “normal” does not apply. And yet, women in refugee camps have been brutalized for years, reports Jina Moore.
