After missing a deadline last week, party leaders agreed to a $1.1 trillion omnibus spending bill that lifts a 40-year-old oil export ban and adds funding for a permanent  healthcare program 9/11 first responders—thanks, in part, to a fierce lobbying by comedian Jon Stewart.

While the Republicans were busy securing opportunities for Big Oil, Democrats managed a five-year extension of “tax credits for renewable energy sources like wind and solar, a three-year reauthorization of the Land Water Conservation Fund, and a concession from Republicans to exclude all major anti-environmental measures from the bill,” reports The Huffington Post.
