Immigrant rights activists are looking for the candidate with an immigration agenda even more progressive than President Obama’s current policy proposals. And they don’t want to spend the next four years holding the next Democratic president to her word, says Dara Lind.

When Hillary Clinton addressed  the National Immigrant Integration Conference on Monday most people in the audience were looking for more than simple feel-good rhetoric. Mention of specific policy proposals is what got them clapping. And many, in the end, were satisfied that Clinton had done her homework and had recognized immigrants as a valuable constituency.
