According to the latest figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the U.S. economy added 292,000 jobs in December, with a higher than expected number of new jobs. NPR’s John Ydstie says experts had expected about 200,000 new jobs. The BLS had initially said the economy added 211,000 jobs back In November. Job gains for October have also been revised, increased from 298,000 to 307,000.

In total, employers created 2.65 million new jobs last year, the second-best year for job growth since 1999, says the Associated Press.
