Last year, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) agreed to review the cases of graduate students who have been campaigning for years to form an official union on campus. New School and Columbia University graduate students are awaiting a decision that could overturn the precedent that has stopped them from organizing on private campuses for more than a decade, reports Michelle Chen.

In fact, petitioners at Columbia University are hoping to include master’s students and undergraduates in the proposed collective bargaining contract despite the efforts of Columbia’s board.
