Here we go again. The headlines from The New York Times, Fox News, CNN all scream TOP SECRET EMAILS ON HILLARY’S SERVER! What they should be shouting is EMAILS THAT WEREN’T CLASSIFIED WHEN INITIALLY SENT ARE NOW DEEMED TOP SECRET. In piece after piece, that fact is buried in paragraph three or further in the story. It is an important distinction as at the time they were sent there was no wrongdoing on Hillary Clinton’s part. Can we say that again so that maybe the media can get it right? She did nothing illegal. She didn’t do anything wrong. And in using her personal email she did nothing that her predecessors Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice didn’t do.
To illustrate the misleading reporting, here are some examples of where this important fact was located in a story.
This was the 5th paragraph of the NYT article,
In the 3rd paragraph on CNN,
“State Department spokesman John Kirby said the documents, totaling 37 pages, were not marked classified at the time they were sent but are being upgraded at the request of the Intelligence Community because they contain sensitive information.”
Fox News didn’t bother to report that fact at all.
Senator Dianne Feinstein Chair of the Intelligence Committee in the Senate has also said that the emails were sent to Secretary Clinton and not the other way around.
This is outrageous and skewed reporting. Some, have even suggested that she will be indicted. There is absolutely no evidence that supports that contention. Nothing, but that doesn’t stop the Republican machine from spewing nasty rumors. How quickly we forget that the House Benghazi committee purpose was to take down Hillary. And they have no intention of giving up. Does anyone wonder why Fox News broke this story? Could it be that once again Republican committee members are leaking to the press?
The media is fawning over Donald Trump. The other night MSNBC had a split screen with a live picture of his airplane waiting for him to disembark in Iowa, like a king was arriving. Morning Joe and others give him time to spew his ugliness without standing up to his lies. Yet, when it comes to Hillary Clinton, the basic facts are lost in this desire to take her down, without regard for the truth or fair play.
This continued attempt to portray her as dishonest and a liar is misogynistic and disingenious when there are no facts to back it up, when too often the lies of other male politicians go unquestioned and their “likability factor” barely discussed. The complicated place that woman in politics find themselves is no different than what women who attempt to climb the ladder in business find themselves in. ‘Don’t be assertive, you will be called a bitch. Don’t talk about your accomplishments, be humble, otherwise people won’t like you.’
Hillary Clinton has been at the forefront of politics for over 30 years. Clinton has made mistakes and some big ones. Her positions have changed over the years, as thinking people sometimes can be accused of. Bernie changed his on guns. But there is nothing that she has done that has caused anyone with any ounce of integrity to say that she is dishonest. Whitewater was a witch hunt by the GOP that turned up nothing. Committee after committee on Benghazi has turned up nothing. That doesn’t seem to matter even to the media, as they continue to participate and perpetuate in the demonization of Hillary Clinton.
