Many may be too young to remember Tommie Smith and John Carlo standing on the Olympic Podium after having won medals in track and field, and then raising their fists in the air in a salute to Black power. It was a stunning moment. Yesterday Beyonce had her own. She and her dancers dressed in a black uniform, clearly in homage to the Black Panthers.  Singing her new release, Formation, which references Katrina, it was a political statement that clearly Beyonce felt ready to make.
