A staggering 374 people have died at sea since the beginning of the year, as they have tried to escape from the ravages of war to a better life. Last year at this time 69 people had perished. Many Syrians are ending up on Turkey’s border. And while Turkey has said it has reached its capacity to take any more refugees they have also said the will continue to allow them in. The crisis shows no signs of abating. BuzzFeed quoted an official as saying, “’Last winter, in January and February, we saw about 5,000 refugees enter Europe in a month. This winter we are sometimes seeing up to 5,000 people come through in a single day.'”
