According to the Women’s Media Center, women represent just 37% of all journalists, a stunning 75% of all stories are written about men. Globally the statistics are worse. Garnet News was created to be part of the solution. 98% of what we publish (including our original content) is written by women. We are also women editors and publishers. It isn’t just the stories we cover or the women who are writing them; we strive to make sure that the images that go along with stories are also inclusive of women, and not just white women.
Adrienne LaFrance’s piece at The Atlantic takes a look not only at the problem but also bravely drills down into her participation in it. It will be that kind of focus and courage that brings about change and makes sure that women’s voices get their due representation each and every day.
