The gunman who killed four and injured 12 on Thursday in a mass shooting at Excel Industries and other locations in Kansas, it turns out, has a history of domestic abuse.
Police say that Cedric Larry Ford may have gone on his shooting spree in response to a restraining order that prevented him from contacting his former girlfriend whom he had abused. Apparently, Ford received a “protection from abuse” order less than two hours before he started randomly shooting strangers.
A woman who said she was Ford’s live-in girlfriend filed an order of protection against him earlier in February, reports Tara Culp-Ressler, after an altercation between them turned violent and Ford tried to strangle her.
