Tiana Carruthers was watching her young daughter, a niece and three other children at a playground in Kalamazoo on Saturday afternoon when a man pulled up in a silver-colored SUV and gestured for her to come closer.

When Carruthers approached him — Uber driver and Kalamazee shooter, Jason Dalton — the man mumbled something then calmly pulled a gun from his coat and shot her near her shoulder, according to Carruthers’ grandmother.

Carruthers immediately turned and screamed to the children to run,  blocking them from the gunman with her body. Despite receiving multiple gun shot wounds, Carruthers survived the shooting.
