In this year’s presidential contest, Jeb Bush’s veteran admaker and chief strategist, Michael Murphy, stood at the helm of the big-money super PAC that Bush and allies believed would deliver him the nomination. Instead, Right to Rise USA ran through more than $101 million of the $119 million it had amassed, by the time the former governor bowed out of the race—never having garnered more than a small fraction of the vote.

Meanwhile campaign finance reports show that Right to Rise paid two of Murphy’s firms “$6.35 million for media production, consulting and ad placement,” writes Matea Gold.
