Constance Fenimore Woolson was a well-known and well-regarded author in her lifetime and a friend and inspiration to Henry James.

When  James died one hundred years ago, on February 28, 1916, he took many secrets with him including the nature of his close friendship with the writer, but there are many suggestions that their friendship was very likely more intimate and mutually supportive than previously realized.
