One of the natural wonders of the world and an iconic representation of the United States is under siege. Developers want to build hotels and resorts. Mining companies want the ability to mine uranium in the area of the canyon. While a recent ruling has repelled efforts to build a resort along a stretch of highway leading to the entrance of the canyon, it is just one of several projects attempting to benefit off this huge natural resource. It is often a contentious battle of economic development vs conservationists.
