Ever since the 1930s, young Americans have reported feeling more and more anxious and depressed.

Dr. Jean Twenge, a social psychologist at San Diego State University with a focus on intergenerational differences, has published a handful of scientific articles on this phenomenon, and she believes the underlying cause is fundamental, saying that the research suggests that modern life itself, is not good for anybody’s mental health.
