Two prosecutors who were both involved with high-profile shootings of two young black men lost their jobs last night. Anita Alvarez, who oversaw the Laquan McDonald shooting by a police officer in Chicago, was ousted by Kim Foxx in the Democratic Primary. Alvarez lost the support of most Democrats after her handling of the McDonald case and her delay in the releasing of the videotape of the shooting.

Tim McGinty, who oversaw the grand jury proceeding in the killing of 12-year-old Tamir Rice by a police officer, also lost to Mike O’Malley in the election for a new prosecutor. McGinty was widely criticized for his handling of the case and what his critics perceived as a bias toward the police and against the victim.
