In a surprise move,  Teach for America will eliminate its Office of the Chief Diversity Officer this fall. The nonprofit that places recent college graduates in low-income school districts across the country says it will shrink its national staff about by 15 percent.

While some of its policies remain controversial, “its ability to put instructors in classrooms who look like and share backgrounds with the nation’s increasingly diverse students has been one of its most-lauded accomplishments,” writes Emily Deruy.
