Why are some kids able to make it out of impoverished circumstances? What if any,  are the keys to escaping the ravages of violence, drug and poverty and making it out to a world that is filled with promise and hope? A new book, Coming of Age in the Other America by Stefanie DeLuca, Susan Clampet-Lundquist, and Kathryn Edin examines these questions and comes up with some recommendations, based on their findings, to help improve the chances for kids to excel, thrive and stop the cycle of poverty.
