Unless they are specially designed bio-plastics, most plastics, which are all made from fossil fuels, don’t degrade quickly into the environment—in fact, they may take hundreds or even thousands of years to break down.

But now, a joint U.S.-China team of researchers have finally discovered how to turn discarded plastic items, like grocery bags and plastic bottles, into useful products like much needed (and cleaner burning) fuel.
